A Tale of Two Websites

“Build it and they will come” might be great advice for a baseball stadium but it is terrible advice for a small business wanting to create an online presence.  People will not magically find a new website just because it exists.  Of course, if people knew the web address, then they could just type that into their browser.  But if they do not know about your business but they want what you sell, how will they find your website?  It happens neither by accident nor by magic.  It happens with the aid of a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) campaign.  SEO is a process that helps websites rank higher than others in internet searches.

Since there is only one page 1 for each Google search and since it is well documented that about 75% of people click on sites found on the first page only and the percent declines rapidly for subsequent pages, it makes sense to do all you can to be on page 1.  Of course, it is more up to Google than you to decide where your site should rank.  But, you can influence your site’s position in the search results.

Through careful design of a website beyond its appearance and content, a business can increase the odds of its website appearing in the first few pages of Google search results using SEO online marketing techniques.  If a site has no SEO online marketing strategy, it likely will not be found in Google searches.
